google tv review

Google TV was a much anticipated new product in the months leading up to its release. Rumors were spread, questions were asked and manufacturers kept mum. Finally, we have access to Google TV and answers to all of our questions!

What is Google TV?

Google TV may be setting the stage for how we experience television in the future. Google TV is a platform that allows you to access the web on your television screen. You can browse sites, watch videos, look at photos; anything you would do on your desk or laptop.

The software also lets you download apps, much like you would to your Android. There are preloaded apps as well, like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and Twitter. You can use your Android phone or iPhone as a remote control and send anything you are watching on your phone straight to your TV.

Watching your favorite shows has never been easier. With a dedicated page for every television series, you can find any episode available on the web or TV. You can record your favorite shows if you subscribe to DISH Network along with Google TV. Your DISH DVR will be enhanced with the addition of Google TV.

Google TV utilizes the Chrome browser which some internet users may already be familiar with. Any updates to the Chrome software will be completed right over the air with no requirements of the owner/user. Users of Google TV will be able to surf the web and watch videos in a picture-in-picture format built into the software.

How Do I Get Google TV?

Google TV devices are sold at local Best Buys and across the internet. You have your choice of buying an Internet TV made by Sony, a Sony DVR or a set-top box manufactured by Logitech. Set-top boxes can easily be hooked into your current cable box or DVR.

How Much is Google TV?

There is no monthly subscription cost associated with Google TV. You simply purchase a compatible television or box and you’ve got Google TV. There may be costs associated with the programming though. For instance, a subscription to Netflix costs $8.99 per month for instant access to their videos and videos on Amazon may cost you $.99 per download. Think of Google TV as a more advanced entertainment system than your computer: the things you currently have to pay for, you’ll still have to pay for.

When Does Google TV Come Out?

Google TV was released in October of 2010 with Logitech’s set-top box called Revue. Google TV is also currently available via Sony TV (in four models), Sony Internet TV Blu-Ray and the Logitech Revue.
